The Heart vs The Mind

The nights of lying in bed staring at the ceiling.

We’ve all been there.

“Who am I?”

“What do I want to do with my life?”

“Should I do this, or shouldn’t I?”

“Did I say or do the wrong thing?”

“Am I enough?”

I wish I understood this sooner.

The years I’ve spent trying to figure it all out.

But here’s what I’ve come to realise-

I am what I feel, not just what I think.

My mind is my guide, but my heart decides.

For so long, I followed what I believed was right.

I tried to understand through logic instead of how I truly felt. What I thought was ‘best’ didn’t always have my back. It didn’t always feel right.

So, I shrank.

I fell back in line.

And somewhere along the way, I lost my sense of fulfillment.

This is where I felt the shift.

My beliefs changed, and I started to see things differently.

This year, I decided – that’s ok.

I think differently. I feel - different.

I am relearning who I am and what I stand for.

It may not look like everyone’s path. But I don’t want to be like everyone else.

The more I follow my heart, the closer I am feeling more fulfilled.

The mind holds information – everything we have learned along the way. It stores the lessons. The disrespect, betrayal, jealousy, and trust issues.

The mind certainly is a powerful tool, but the heart moves differently.

Sometimes your mind works against your heart. And that’s where our internal conflict begins.

A lot of us are all walking around with some kind of internal battle.

For years I have lived with brain fog. Overthinking, second-guessing and trying to figure everything out.

Experience has shown me new light. The views I once had don’t even fit anymore.

I see this now in my past relationships.

I didn’t know back then how to identify and separate the difference of a relationship worth fighting for, but at the cost of my own peace – was not a true form of love. My mind knew the standard and expectations. But my heart was suffering.

I am finally acknowledging and respecting what I feel.

And I love myself more for doing so.

I grew up with hopes and dreams for a career path which not everyone believed in. I lost faith in myself and my dreams. I believed another person’s words over mine.

But do I feel fulfilled?

No.

Now I am stepping into all the things I talked myself down from. I am feeling much more growth, whether I fail or not.

I still find it difficult to have faith in myself, but every step so far has been rewarding.

I can choose to grow, rebuild my own beliefs, values and perspective.

Things I used to be so against, I see new light too now. I have more understanding.

Let’s throw away the right from wrong for a second.

Each person lives a unique life. And if a friend comes to me for guidance, I won’t put their needs in a right or wrong category. It is not all black and white.

I will listen to - you. Your tone, your gestures, your emotions.

I will do my best to visualize and connect to what you feel.

Because the value of someone living their own fulfilling life - is what matters to me more than anyone else’s opinion or typical tradition.

The mind is shaped by conditioning.

The heart is aligned with truth and fulfillment.

Seeing you explore who you are and what feels right for you makes me feel proud that you are connecting to your true self.
