Cassie Unmasked
There’s a quiet grief in being the strong one. And when it’s expected it’s no longer seen.
I became dependable, but somewhere in that I became someone who couldn’t fall apart.
In high school, my friends ghosted me.
I was labelled the loner.
At the time it made me feel small.
But looking back, that loneliness plays part in what shapes me into someone who can stand on her own.
Someone who learned how to think for herself.
Someone who created their own beliefs instead of inheriting them.
It gave me space to decide who I wanted to become – not someone I was expected to be.
I learned about my big heart the hard way.
I saw the good in everyone, even if it hurt me.
I gave love freely even if it wasn’t returned.
I learned attachment.
I learned self-sacrifice.
And now I’m learning something different.
Agape.
A love that doesn’t beg, chase or deplete.
A love that starts with me.
I was told which paths I should take.
That I was too quiet.
That my dreams were unrealistic.
I was living my life with limitations.
It doesn’t feel like control at first, it felt like advice.
Underneath, shapeshifting to expectations, or subtle judgement.
The truth is, no one held me back more than – me.
I doubted everything.
I thought comfortable was happy.
But there’s more to it.
I can be a mother, feel overwhelmed…and still be sensual, romantic and desired.
I don't want motherhood, or any relationship attachments - to erase me.
I want to follow my dreams.
Even if it’s in small, slow snippets.
There’s still a voice that tells me to shrink.
To stay small.
To play it safe.
But it triggers something in me now.
And I’m choosing to walk away from those thoughts.
Because what do I really have to lose – if I’m learning, growing and becoming through it all?
But trusting that this version of me is something to be seen.
Being real and honest is free.
If I can be messy or tired while still figuring it out, then maybe I don’t have to carry it all perfectly anymore.
Sometimes we label ourselves too quickly.
We say we’re lost.
Or broken.
Or even depressed.
But what if it’s something else?
What if it’s just a pause?
Taking a step back?
Getting a different view on the kind of path you want to walk.
If you are becoming the person you want to be.
I don’t want to build a life on performance.
I want to build it on experience.
I am the creator – of my life.
I have learned so much in discomfort.
In questioning.
Or unlearning.
Sometimes we may even think or feel or easily be labeled as depressed.
But what if it’s not?
What if I’m just taking a step back. Sitting in my own space, puzzling my new beliefs and perspective.
Creating a more authentic life for myself – with feeling it all too.
This is who I am beneath conditioning, expectations and roles.
This version of myself forged through experience - not performance.
I’m choosing to be seen now.
